The brief called for an apartment building comprising 198 apartments over ground floor retail and 2 floors of basement car parking.  The site is a dominant gateway location within a recently regenerated area on the southern side of Manchester city centre, adjacent a number of award winning Urban Splash developments.  The design comprises rigid, rectilinear forms following the back of pavement line, reflecting the old industrial factories and warehouses, typical to the area.  We were conscious not to copy the industrial language of the sites’ past but reinterpret a modular and cellular expression in a fluid and contemporary manner.
