wakefield waterfront

client: ctp st. james

The brief called for a development of 198 apartments within the Wakefield Waterfront Masterplan prepared by Faulkner Brown. The accommodation is displaced within 3 identical blocks that sit perpendicular to the River Calder.  This orientation reduces the impact of the mass along the river front; maintains views through the development from Barnsley Road; and provides each apartment with a river view. Each building is wrapped in a sculptural lightweight skin that contains large openings on the south and north elevations, which in turn group the balconies and windows for the majority of apartments, controling the repetitive nature of the residential façade and maximising the amount of solid façade helping minimise the impact of the building mass.
